As one of the oldest animal hospitals in the area, we have a long history of providing exceptional veterinary care to pets. We’re proud of the outstanding reputation we’ve earned by treating our patients and clients with kindness, integrity, and compassion.

The Early Years of Eastside Animal Hospital

The first veterinary practice at this location was built more than 50 years ago by Dr. Francis Roll. The building was put up for sale in 1971 and purchased by Dr. James E. Howard. Dr. Howard opened his veterinary practice on the site and registered with the state of Indiana as Eastside Animal Hospital, the name we still retain to this day.

The opening of Dr. Howard’s veterinary practice was the realization of a dream: to create one of the largest and best small animal hospitals in Southern Indiana as a service to local families and their pets. In the early years of the practice, we had two full-time veterinarians along with several support team members. Our practice has expanded over the years to keep up with the growth of our local community. We are now staffed with seven veterinarians here in Jeffersonville who are dedicated to providing area pets with the best, most compassionate medical care possible.

Dr. Howard’s legacy was carried on by his niece, Dr. Laura Howard Strong. She served as a veterinarian at Eastside for many years and works with our staff periodically to this day delivering the same incredible veterinary care her uncle did.

Our Facility

Our current facility is still located on the site of Dr. Roll’s former practice, but we’re now housed in a newly remodeled building. In May of 2001, a fire in a neighboring business spread to our practice. What could have been considered a tragedy, we viewed as an opportunity. We renovated, expanded, and upgraded our building to the 12,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility that you see today.
